It might be tempting to assume that the newest technologies are also the most reliable. After all, they come with state-of-the-art technical features that offer a better overall experience for whatever problem it is trying to solve. 

However, a recent survey by Uswitch has shown that, when it comes to sports, 47% of users who stream a game on a smart TV say they have had a spoiled goal. In comparison, only 12% of users listening to a game on analog radio said the same. 

It’s not like sports fans are going to flock back to the time when people gathered around the radio to listen to a game. But these stats are an important thing to consider for all sports and streaming providers. 

The reason why such delays occur is mostly when content is converted into digital video and then the customer gets it decoded. Some seconds are normal, but a few more than the average can irritate viewers –and even risk their subscriptions or their adherence to certain service.

So, while delays are inevitable, streaming companies have two alternatives: either improve their service or compensate users for the lag. Not having a goal spoiled is definitely the preferred outcome, but while a company decides to improve on their OTT streaming service, additional perks –like exclusive content, direct to social engagement, or other types of activities that hep capitalize on existing brand loyalty
