Mobii ultra low-latency streaming services on Microsoft Azure now available in the Azure Marketplace

Microsoft Azure customers worldwide now gain access to Mobii’s ultra low-latency live video streaming solution to take advantage of the scalability, reliability, and agility of Azure to drive application development and shape business strategies.

BRAMPTON, Ontario, Canada — June 6, 2023 —Mobii Systems, a video streaming tech start-up, today announced the availability of its Microblock technology-based services in the Microsoft AzureMarketplace, an online store providing applications and services for use on Azure. Mobii customers can now take advantage of the productive and trusted Azure cloud platform, with streamlined deployment and management.

Mobii’s technology overcomes industry latency challenges and enables video streaming in Dash/HLS to achieve an end-to-end global latency of less than 500ms. The key to this technology is the development of Microblock-enabled encoders that can be deployed on-premises or enabled on virtual machines within Azure. This new encoding architecture significantly reduces encoding latency and connects output streams to Azure.Streams are then distributed globally, using a Microblock Protocol via HTTP2, to Edge Clusters powered by Azure Kubernetes service before being egressed asCMAF (in Dash/HLS) to regional CDN’s for playback into existing video players, supporting fast start-up with a TTFF of less than 100ms.

“While industry has been turning to WebRTC for the answer to latency, there are significant shortfalls in performance and high associated costs to achieve this at scale. With Microblock technology andMicrosoft Azure, we enable real-time end-to-end latency with existing streaming formats such as CMAF (in Dash/HLS). Streams are compatible with existing CDN’s and video players, which is a significant factor in streaming at scale,” saidRoderick Barrett, COO of Mobii.

“Through Microsoft Azure Marketplace, customers around the world can easily find, buy, and deploy partner solutions they can trust, all certified and optimized to run on Azure,” said Jake Zborowski, General Manager,Microsoft Azure Platform at Microsoft Corp. “We’re happy to welcome Mobii Systems’ solution to the growing Azure Marketplace ecosystem.”

A further benefit of Microblock technology is the ability to frame-synchronize streaming outputs.

“With our technology, you can stream multiple camera angles of a sporting event and let users seamlessly change their viewing experience at will, all with real-time end-to-end latency that lets viewers direct their own experience,” said Barrett. “Solving latency and frame synchronization creates opportunity for organizations to deploy innovative real-time solutions with live streaming”.

Aside from its current integration into broadcast workflows, Mobii has already achieved success in sport too, one such example being an integration with United States Major League Rugby.

“With Mobii, we support critical match day services that depend on reliable, ultra-low latency video distribution. The ability to deliver multiple frame-synchronized video feeds globally, with sub 500ms latency, enables real-time remote data collection, supports television match officials, medical teams, high-performance analytics, and has also lets us implement various remote workflows needed for key decision making when it matters most,” said Nishant Nereyeth, Director of Operations and Marketing at Major League Rugby.

The Azure Marketplace is an online market for buying and selling cloud solutions certified to run on Azure. The Azure Marketplace helps connect companies seeking innovative, cloud-based solutions with partners who have developed solutions that are ready to use.
